Aim

The Call 2023 will comprise two topics:

  • Quantum Phenomena and Resources
  • Applied Quantum Science

Projects are expected to address one or more of the following research areas:

  • Quantum communication
  • Quantum simulation
  • Quantum computation
  • Quantum information sciences
  • Quantum metrology sensing and imaging

The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) will financially support only successful Czech applicants involved in the applied research projects. Czech applicants involved in the basic research projects will be supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS).

Participating countries

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom

General conditions for application

The project consortia must have a minimum of 3 eligible partners requesting funding in at least 3 of the countries participating in the Call 2023. Proposals are evaluated based on the European Commission’s criteria of Excellence, Impact, and Quality and efficiency of the implementation.

Each applicant must fulfil the conditions of the Research Funding Organisation from their respective country (to be described in the Call Announcement).

Aim

Submitted project proposals are expected to be aligned with one of the two Call 2021 topics:

  • Quantum Phenomena and Resources, where the main aim is to lay the foundations for the Quantum Technologies for the future; 
  • Applied Quantum Science, where the goal is to take known quantum effects and established concepts from quantum science, translate them into technological applications and develop new products.

Funded projects are expected to significantly advance the state-of-art of quantum sciences and technologies in Europe.

The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) will financially support only successful Czech applicants involved in the applied research projects. Czech applicants involved in the basic research projects will be supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MEYS).

General conditions for application

A two-step application procedure will be used in this call. Consortia are required to submit their project proposals in English electronically. Instructions regarding the submission, eligibility, evaluation criteria and other relevant information will be published on the QuantERA II Call 2021 official website.

To be eligible, research consortia must include at least three independent legal entities applying for funding from three different countries or funding agencies participating in the Call.

About QuantERA II

The QuantERA II ERA-NET Cofund in Quantum Technologies is a consortium of national and regional Research Funding Organisations (RFOs) in Europe supporting basic and applied research in Quantum Technologies. It is supported by the European Union’s Future and Emerging Technologies programme (FET). 

The RFOs involved in the QuantERA II Call jointly support European multilateral research projects with the potential to initiate or foster new lines of Quantum Technologies through collaborations exploring advanced multidisciplinary science and/or cutting-edge engineering.

The total available budget reaches almost € 40 Mio (including co-funding from the European Commission).

QuanrERA II has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme under grant agreement No. 101017733.
